They got connected to the Biennial through a mentor they met while interning at the Museum of Contemporary Art. They felt aligned to the mission and with their interests, so they were grateful to be able to join the trip. They will begin an art residency for one month just outside of Mexico City.

Mexico City during Art Week really surprised Semilla, especially seeing the international and local communities come together for the week-long experience. They engaged with a lot of different types of work pushing boundaries, highlighting the limits they have in place and inspiring them to push those within their own work.

"As a local Denver creative, my personal development and artistic practice have greatly benefitted from exploring different cultures. I find a lot of inspiration in the diversity of Latinx identity, as I am able to tap into a the familiar feeling of kinship while broadening my worldview. With these new perspectives, I am better equipped to continue expanding my scope of work within the community, especially in collaboration with organizations such as Museo de las Americas and Biennial of the Americas. The geography of Mexico City and its international allure is pertinent to the work that I do. I've cultivated an interest in learning more about the ancient history and contemporary expressions of Mexico by being of service to the Chicano and Mexican populations of Denver. I am passionate about building bridges, not walls, and continue to be transformed whenever I utilize my skills to increase accessibility for Spanish-speaking communities."
